Paq Mochila, daily rucksack transfer service in the Camino de Santiago, is one of the most demanding services by the pilgrims who every year walk the differente Jacobean Routes. A service born with the aim to ease the pilgrimage to walkers and bike riders covering their necessities.
Since its beginning, you have reached to us through the website - from where you can send us all your questions - as well as through our postmen and postwomen and Correos offices. Here we gather the most frequently asked questions about the rucksack transfer in the Camino de Santiago with the goal of easing things for you so that you can plan better your pilgrimage to Compostela.
What is Paq Mochila?
Paq Mochila is the service through which Correos intends to make things easier for the pilgrims, freeing them of unnecessary burdens so that they can enjoy the experience to the maximum. Through it, we transport your backpacks or luggage from stage to stage every day so that you can walk your Camino without any weights on your back.
In which Caminos can I book Paq Mochila?
The Correos rucksack transfer service from stage to stage can be booked in almost every Camino. It is available from Semana Santa to October 31st in the Camino Francés from Roncesvalles, in the Camino Portugués from Porto and Tui, and also from A Guarda, including the Variante Espiritual, in the Camino Primitivo from Oviedo, in the Camino del Norte from Irún, in the Camino Inglés from Ferrol, in the Camino Sanabrés from Ourense and in the Camino to Fisterra and Muxía. The rest of the year, Paq Mochila is available in the Camino Francés from Sarria to Santiago and in the Camino Portugués from Tui to Santiago (except December 24th, 25th and 31st and January 1st).
How does Paq Mochila work?
It's really simple! Paq Mochila is a daily backpack transfer service thay works from accommodation to accommodation. The only thing you have to do is telling us when and where you want your backpack picked and delivered. You do not have to reach a Correos office in order to do it: our postmen will go to the hostel, apartment or hotel where you start your stage and and deliver your backpack in the accommodation where you finish it. But remember: you must have a booking in the accommodation so that we can provide this service.
Before starting your stage, you must leave your luggage in the reception of the accommodation before 8 AM; that way, we will do the rest and provide you have it in your destination hostel, apartment or hotel before 2:30 PM.
Can Paq Mochila be booked even if I choose my accommodation day by day?
You can book Paq Mochila for just a stage, for several ones or for all your Camino. The essential thing is that you let us know in which town and accommodation you will be starting and finishing your Camino.
Beyond that, if you already know which will be all the accommodations you will be staying at through all your Camino, you can provide all that info to us and leave it all planned before you startr. And if you do not know it yet, there is no problem! You can tell us day by day: you have ultil 8 PM fro the previous day of the transfer to tell us.
Is it possible to book Paq Mochila if I sleep at an Airbnb or an accommodation withouth reception?
It is possible to book Paq Mochila despite the kind of accommodation you have chosen: hotel, hostal, apartment... There is just one condition: it has to have a reception or an access code that you must communicate to us. There is just an exception: in public hostels, despite of having a reception, do not allow these kind of services, so if that is your choice, you must look for an alternate location and reach us about it.
Does Paq Mochila work from Saint Jean Pied de Port? And from Porto?
Correos only provides its service in Spain, since it the Spanish postal service. That is the reason why it cannot be booked from Saint Jean Pied de Port. However, you can book it from Roncesvalles, end of the Camino Francés first stage, or from Valcarlos, just after the border. Besides that, in Burguete, just 3 km away from Roncesvalles, we count on a Correos office where you can also book Paq Mochila from.
From June 2025, Correos counts on a backpack transport route from Porto: Paq Mochila is available from Portugal in the Camino Central from Porto. If you are going to walk the Camino Portugués on the shore, Paq Mochila is only available from A Guarda, already in Galicia.
Which Correos offices are Paq Mochila pick up or delivery points?
Correos' Paq Mochila transports luggage from accommodation to accommodation, so it is not necessary that the pilgrim reaches any Correos office. In case of having any problem, our attention to the pilgrim service will reach you about it.
How can I book Paq Mochila?
We want your Camino to be as comfortable as possible, and that is why we put two ways of booking Paq Mochila at your disposal:
- Online. Through our online booking form.
- Mail. Sending an email to paqmochila@correos.com
In order to book it, you must let us know the dates and stages where you want us to do the transport and then follow the instructions you will be given for the reservation and the payment (via card or PayPal if you book it online and via card if you book it through mail).
How does online booking work?
Booking Paq Mochila online is really simple and intuitive. The first thing you must select is which Camino you want to to, whether it is a Caino we already have in our website or designing your own Camino, telling us the start and end you have chosen.
Once it is paid, if you already know all the accommodations you will be staying, you can let us know. If you don't, the essential thing is that you tell us the pick-up and deivery point of the first day.
The rest of the information can be submitted later, even while you are already walking the Camino, but always before 8 PM of the previous day to the transport. Once you finish your online reservation we will send you an email with all the information of your booking and with the access password you must enter in order to make any change.
If I change my mind, can I make changes on the reservation?
Were you mistaken when making the reservation? Have you changed a place to stay the night? No problem. You can make changes in your reservation up to the day before to the transport at 8 PM.
If you book it online, you can make the changes with the code given to you in the booking confirmation. In case you want to add one or more backpacks, you must not make modifications. You must do a new reservation. On the other side, if you want to erase a backpack from your reservation, you must cancel your booking and making a new one with the correct number of backpacks.
In case you booked it via mail, you can let us know the changes at paqmochila@correos.com.
How much is it?
You can check the fees doing a simulation in our form, just entering the places of start and end of your transport. Remember that if you book five or more stages, you can be benefited from a discount. And also for Caminos of more than 30 stages. This fees are thought for the transport of a single backpack not heavier than 15 km that will not be moved more than 60 km each day.
How much is the service if I do the Camino by bike?
The price remains the same.
If I walk the Camino in more stages than the established ones, will the price change?
If you walk the Camino in more stages than those established officially, the prices does not change. For example: from Sarria to Santiago, the total fee will be 30 euros. If by any chance you fo it in 7 days in stead of doing it in 5, the price remains the same.
If when I arrive to Santiago I don't have where to stay, is there an alternate point?
If when you arrive to Santiago yoou do not have an accommodation, yoou can ask for your backpack to be left at our Luggage Storage, in the Correos Santiago Main Office (Rúa do FRanco, 4), just 2 minutes away from the Cathedral. Just for being a Paq Mochila client, you have an special price of 3.5€ by backpack. From there, you can send your luggage back home with Paq Peregrino and also the bike with Paq Bicicleta.
