Porto now has its own Pilgrim Office. Located just a few meters from Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto), it is open every day of the year from 7:00 a.m. to assist the thousands of pilgrims who begin their Camino de Santiago in the Portuguese city.
Founded by the International Union of Jacobean Pilgrims Associations (UIDPJ), the Porto Pilgrim Office aims to provide specialized support to pilgrims, offering useful information for their journey, stamping Pilgrim Credentials, and serving as a welcoming hub for the Camino community.
The opening of the Porto Pilgrim Office is especially significant in a city that has become the third most popular starting point for pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago. Only Sarria (on the French Way) and Tui (on the Portuguese Way) attract more pilgrims.
In 2025, more than 50,000 people began their Camino de Santiago in Porto, following either the Portuguese Way or the Coastal Route to Santiago de Compostela.
Open every day from 7:00 a.m.
The Porto Pilgrim Office has opened its doors just a short distance from Porto Cathedral, the starting point of the Portuguese Way in the city. It occupies a building with more than eight centuries of history, located on Rua da Pena Ventosa, 38, the oldest street in Porto.

It will be open every day of the year, with seasonal opening hours. During the high season, it will open from 7:00 a.m. and operate both in the morning and afternoon to meet the needs of pilgrims.

High Season (March 21, 2026 – October 31, 2026): 7:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

Low Season (November 1, 2026 – March 2027): 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
The building, provided by the Porto City Council and managed by the International Union of Jacobean Pilgrims Associations (UIDPJ), is spread over two floors. It currently features several service desks dedicated to assisting pilgrims and stamping their Pilgrim Credentials.
This is particularly important because Porto Cathedral only stamps Pilgrim Credentials that have been purchased in its own shop.

The Porto Pilgrim Office also includes a rest area and a welcoming space for pilgrims. Although it does not currently offer accommodation, there are plans to continue expanding the facility and eventually establish a pilgrims’ hostel.
Services Available in Porto
n addition to providing guidance and credential stamping, the volunteers at the Porto Pilgrim’s Office can offer information about the different Camino de Santiago routes leading to Compostela, as well as logistical advice.
They can also provide information about support services available to pilgrims. One of the most useful services for those walking the Camino de Santiago is luggage transport from one stage to the next between Porto and Santiago. Correos offers this service through Paq Mochila, available on both the Central Portuguese Way and the Portuguese Coastal Way.
For pilgrims who wish to walk without carrying extra luggage, Correos also offers Paq Mochila Directo, a service that allows travelers to send their luggage directly from Porto to Santiago de Compostela.
In both cases, the Porto Pilgrim’s Office serves as a Correos luggage collection and delivery point. If you book either Paq Mochila or Paq Mochila Directo, you can select the Porto Pilgrim’s Office as your collection point in our booking form. Our postal staff will pick up your luggage there and transport it to your accommodation at the next stage of your journey.
In addition, the office itself provides a luggage storage service for those starting the Camino in Porto and needing to store extra baggage.
Pilgrims can also obtain information about other services, such as private transfers and taxis, guided tours, and bicycle rentals.
International Union of Jacobean Pilgrims Associations
The opening of the Porto Pilgrim Office is a project promoted by the International Union of Jacobean Pilgrims Associations (UIDPJ).
The UIDPJ is a non-profit international association that brings together individuals and organizations committed to promoting, preserving, and enhancing the pilgrimage experience across the various routes of the Camino de Santiago, with a particular focus on the Portuguese Way in all its variants.
Through this initiative, the UIDPJ aims to strengthen Porto’s role as a strategic Camino hub and contribute to a more structured and professional pilgrim reception system that meets growing demand.
