Five stages, 20 pilgrims with disabilities, 10 companions and one shared goal: to continue working towards a Camino de Santiago that everyone can enjoy.

With this goal in mind, a group of pilgrims from different parts of Spain walked the section of the Camino Francés between Logroño and Burgos in a pilgrimage promoted by Fundación ONCE, with the support of Correos.

The activity is part of Camino + Accesible, a joint initiative by both organisations aimed at promoting accessibility along the Camino de Santiago.

The participants belonged to different organisations: the Spanish Federation of Heart Transplant Recipients (FETCO), the Aspanias Association of Burgos, the Jaén Brain Injury Association (DCJ), Fundación CLM and the Andalusian Public Foundation for the Social Integration of People with Mental Illness (FAISEM).

People with different experiences and from different parts of Spain shared more than 120 kilometres over five days. This diversity reflects one of the core values of the Camino de Santiago: being a meeting place where people from all over the world can come together and share experiences.

The group set out from Logroño to complete five stages of the Camino Francés to Burgos. Step by step, the pilgrims made their way along the route, sharing the challenges and experiences that are part of any pilgrimage.

After several days on the Camino, the group reached the province of Burgos to tackle the final stretch of their journey. The last two stages awaited them there, Belorado–San Juan de Ortega and San Juan de Ortega–Burgos, bringing this section of the Camino Francés to a close.

Throughout the journey, the pilgrims were also accompanied by Fundación ONCE staff and members of the Guardia Civil, providing additional support during the experience.

Correos supported the pilgrimage through its Paq Mochila, stage-by-stage luggage transfer service. The service transported the group’s luggage from one accommodation to the next, making the logistics of each day’s stage easier to manage.

A Camino for everyone

Walking the Camino de Santiago is about much more than simply reaching a destination. Each stage is an opportunity to share effort, moments of tiredness, landscapes and experiences.

It is precisely this spirit of connection and shared experience that lies behind this pilgrimage. The initiative seeks to help ensure that everyone can enjoy the experience of walking the Camino.

Achieving this requires continued progress on accessibility. This means not only working to remove physical barriers, but also making information easier to access and providing resources that help people with disabilities plan and undertake their own Camino.

The pilgrimage is part of Camino + Accesible, the joint initiative by Correos and Fundación ONCE to promote accessibility and make it easier for people with disabilities to walk the Camino de Santiago.

The project includes a range of actions aimed both at providing useful resources and at raising awareness among everyone involved in the Camino of the need to continue improving accessibility.

A Camino we continue to walk together

Five stages after leaving Logroño, the group’s arrival in Burgos marked the end of this pilgrimage. Along the way, pilgrims and companions shared kilometres and experiences, helping to highlight the importance of continuing to work towards an increasingly accessible Camino de Santiago.

The Camino is made step by step. And making it a journey that everyone can enjoy is a goal we must work towards together.

¡Buen Camino!
