28 km

The walk starts in Olveiroa towards the dam of Castrelo and climbing until you see the river Xallas in the background. After 5 kilometres, Hospital is found shortly before the Fisterra / Muxía fork. You have to go straight ahead, walking past the wind turbines.

The path continues through Santa Baia and the sports facilities of O Conco, a place suited for some rest. With some ten kilometres behind you, you will reach the village of Dumbría, where you can find all sorts of services. 6 kilometres away from here you will find Senande and the typical inland landscape of Coruña that does not reveal that the sea is very close by.

The first villages in the municipality of Muxía are Quintáns and Os Muíños. After that, the town of legend and sea is before us. The shrine of A Nosa Señora da Barca towers over Muxía. On Christmas Day in 2013, the church suffered a terrible fire that burnt it almost to the ground and it had to be fully rebuilt. The fire seemed to be caused by lightning striking directly onto the roof of the church. By the church, you will find the popular “pedra de Abalar”. Legend has it that it has the shape of a vessel because Holy Mary arrived in it to the Galician coast. Visitors perform the ritual of going under it, and thus the name “Pedra dos cadrís”, meaning lower back in Galician.

What to do and see in the stage Olveiroa - Muxía?

“Some 4 km away, in the village of Os Muíños, you will find the 13th-century monastery of Moraime.

The monastery is located past the village of Quintáns, in San Martiño de Ozón, and it has one of the biggest hórreos in Galicia. In Muxía proper, apart from the Shrine and church of Santa María, you need to go up to the viewpoint of O Corpiño and also visit the secadores of conger eel (the facilities where this fish used to be dried to be preserved), unique in Europe”.
