The Vía de la Plata departs from Zafra in a steep slope towards the tower of San Francisco and continues ascending for 3 kilometres towards the Alto de San Cristóbal, to then descend to Los Santos de Maimona. Here you can see the church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, with its Plateresque façade, the Puerta del Perdón, and a beautiful high altar.
READ MOREIf you go around the church and past the Plaza Teniente Carrasco, you will be on the EX-364 to then access a gravel road. You will be surrounded again by olive trees and vineyards, with just the occasional exit to the main road or the railway tracks.
The Camino leads you to Villafranca de los Barros, where you can see the plaza de España. Besides, you can also visit the church of Nuestra Señora de la Coronada and the church of Nuestra Señora del Valle, with its Gothic façade.

What to do and see in Villafranca de los Barros?
“This town is located in the heart of the county called Tierra de Barros and has been labelled the “City of Music” due to the tradition and love of its inhabitants for music. I recommend a visit to the new Historic-Ethnographic Museum that will take you through our history all the way from Palaeolithic times.
Other places of interest are the Casa de la Cultura, located in a refurbished flour mill, the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and the chapels of La Milagrosa, San Isidro and El Pilar. You can also visit the facilities of the Colegio de San José, with its quaint chapel”.
