In Castilblanco de los Arroyos there are two fountains we used to fetch water from, although now this is discouraged as they are not controlled by the health authorities - one of them, el Pilar Viejo, is just at the end of the street “Cuesta de la Espina”. This street is the steepest in the village and offers great views of the mountains, especially at dusk. The other fountain is the Pilar Nuevo, located just on the outskirts of the village, on the road to Almadén, precisely on the Camino. By this fountain, there is a road that takes you to the church of San Benito Abad, patron saint of Castilblanco, some 12 km away from the village. You can visit it from 9 in the morning to 8 in the evening. From this nice path, you get to the impressive surroundings of Sierra Morena and the new dam of Los Melonares. To eat, I’d recommend “venteras”, a typical local dish with asparagus as one of its main ingredients, therefore, you should eat it especially in November, their harvesting period”.
