Caminho Francês

Logroño - Nájera

29’5 km Difficulty
This is a long section, but without steep inclines. The fork leading to Logroño heads for 3 and a half kilometres towards the park of la Grajera, a green recreational area by the old dam of La Grajera. After 8 kilometres, walkers have to ascend and then descend towards Navarrete, famous for its traditional pottery and the ruins of the pilgrim hospital of San Juan de Acre.

The route continues towards the detour of Sotés, where the path runs parallel to the A12 motorway for a couple of kilometres. At that point, having covered 18 kilometres, one can choose between continuing straight ahead or visiting the village of Ventosa. The peak of San Antón offers views of the valley before embarking on the last section of the day towards Nájera, a descent that is not precipitous, but nevertheless takes 2 hours. A visit to the monastery and church of Santa María la Real is highly recommended.

Tips from our postmen and women

“Walking along the riverbank of the Najerilla that runs through this town, recently reclaimed, makes for a nice stroll after a long day’s journey on the Camino. The course of this river offers a  a chance to enjoy the adjoining terraces. If we still have the energy, we can go up to the Castillo (castle), visit the excavations of the Alcázar with beautiful views overlooking the city, or walk around the old town and take a look at the riverbank from the bridge”. Blanca Amelia Riaño, Correos of Nájera.
