Carrión de los Condes - Terradillos de los Templarios

26’5 km Difficulty

It is advisable to take some supplies for the day as the distance between Carrión de los Condes and the next village, Calzadilla de Cueza, is 17 kilometres of plain Castilian fields.

From Carrión de los Condes, you take the Villotilla road and 5 kilometres later you reach the Via Aquitana, a Roman road linking Astorga and Burgos with its original track intact.

Calzadilla de Cueza offers all the standard services for pilgrims, both as a place to rest and to sleep. Those who decide to continue still have almost 10 kilometres to reach Terradillos de los Templarios, after leaving the village of Ledigos.

Tips from our postmen and women

“On the Camino you will find the parish church of Ledigos. It is said to be the only church on the Camino with a representation of the three Santiagos: the pilgrim, the Apostle and the so-called Matamoros (literally Moor Slayer, as Saint James was used as a symbol by Christians to expel Muslims during the Spanish Reconquista, even if the Apostle himself is totally unrelated to these events). Before you reach Terradillos, you will come across the site of a Templar legend: it is said that the last Templars who were stewards of the pilgrim hospital  buried the goose that laid the golden eggs in the altar of Torbosillo, to the right of the Camino... you can try to find it!”. Piedad del Blanco, Correos of Carrión de los Condes.
